Death is something we will all experience during our lifetimes, and the loss of a loved one is a sensitive time. Architecture should be at the forefront of the celebration of life as this is the place family and friends can pay their last respects. Through the architecture design, the proposal guides guests through a journey, which controls and changes there sense and perception of space through different lighting qualities, vegetation, colour and textures.

On arrival the mourners are brought through the first stage of the landscape which has a mixture of coloured plants that offer different smells. As mourners are transitioning towards the final resting place, noise is gradually reduced to change the senses, before arriving in the main space which is soundproof to block all noise from the urban context outside. The cubes floating above the pigment wall acts as a heavenly concept which embraces that the spirt of the deceased are being brought above the human scale level and taken to heaven. Once the service has concluded, mourners depart through the second phase of landscaping which offers a different experience through trees and birds habiting the space which builds on the philosophy of the deceased being reincarnated. Once mourners have departed from the landscape they are brought back to the urban setting of the Living Edge masterplan. To allow mourners to have a personal connection with the building, names plaques of each deceased will be added to the pigment walls which surround the entire building. Name plaques will face towards the urban context of the street, and as the wall becomes populated with names it will create an interesting feature to the urban context.
