The growth of digital culture is dominating society today and continues to heavily impact many global industries. A particular industry that has benefited from the boom of digital culture is the eSports industry. eSports has seen a tremendous growth recently both in terms of viewership and revenue. The popularity of eSports is dominated on an online viewing level at the moment, however the experience of attending eSports events is growing rapidly with thousands of people paying money to experience the lively and unique experience.

The masterplan of Aberdeen beach had a strong concentration on providing innovative and exciting industries for the city with a particular focus on the digital culture of society. The Aberdeen eSports Arena is looking to address the technological advancements that have been demonstrated within this industry and the enticement that is created for a major eSports event.

The design of the arena intends to create a dramatic and enticing form which draws people towards it. The arena will consist of a series of gaming pods where up to 4 people can experience a new eSports viewing experience. This futuristic approach to eSports viewing will allow for the viewers to feel completely engrossed in the event as they will have access to multiple screens in front of them as well as the performance of the event which will also be happening in front of them. The form of the bowl has taken inspiration from the golden ratio in order to create a distinct connection between the open air pods. This connection will happen vertically and laterally due to the composition of the pods within the arena. This building will also host a series of hotel rooms where people can submerge themselves in a gaming world 24/7.
